5 New Smoothie Recipes to Try this Summer

If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably got a couple of favourite go-to smoothie recipes which you have on repeat throughout the year. Those smoothies you could chop, blitz, pour and enjoy on auto-pilot, filled with your favourite fruits, milks and other nutritious ingredients. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that, but we reckon that heading into summer is the perfect time to learn a new trick or two in the smoothie department!

We’ve searched out some fresh, inspiring smoothie recipes to share with you, and taken them for a test drive in the Cannabella kitchen. We added some little twists to recipes we tested, including adding hemp seeds and powder to bump up the nutritional value in two of them.

We’d love you to give them a try and tag us in on your socials to tell us how you got on, and whether any have made it onto high rotation at your place this season…

New Smoothie Recipes

Hemp + Strawberry Smoothie

With hemp seed oil in your skincare plus hemp seeds in your smoothie, you’ll be bursting with hemp healthiness this summer! If you can’t get your hands on hemp seeds (although they’re now available even in supermarkets which is great), you can substitute chia seeds.

Whiz together;

1 1/2 cups frozen whole strawberries
1 tablespoon unsweetened almond butter 3 pitted Medjool dates
1 cup unsweetened nut milk
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon hemp seeds

Serve; topped with a sprinkling of more hemp seeds and a little dash of cinnamon.

Nuts About Banana Smoothie

We all love a good old banana smoothie – some would even describe it as the OG of smoothies. Here’s how to pimp yours out so it tastes even better, and delivers MORE plant-based protein into the bargain.

Whiz together;

1 large very ripe banana, preferably frozen and chopped
1 cup cold almond milk
3 Tablespoon creamy almond butter (use peanut butter if you don’t have) 1 Tablespoons honey

Serve; with a few slivered almonds or a sprinkle of cinnamon on top, after a workout.

Creamy Watermelon Smoothie

The name sounds slightly odd (since when are watermelons creamy?!) but trust us on this one. It’s pure summer goodness in a glass. We are big fans of all things watermelon (we even use watermelon seed extract as an active ingredient in our heaven-scent La Tropica Body Serum and predict we’ll be churning this smoothie out many times over the hot months.

Whiz together;

2 cups chopped seedless watermelon
1 small banana
3⁄4 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved 1⁄2 cup unsweetened coconut-milk yogurt
2 teaspoons agave syrup or honey
1⁄8 teaspoon salt

Serve; with tiny watermelon wedges or mint as garnish, after a sweet morning at the beach.

Choc Mint Smoothie with Avocado & Hemp

Healthy, chocolatey AND starring everyone’s favourite brekkie staple, avocado… what’s not to love? We came across this recipe on US foodie site Celebrating Sweets and altered it a little to add our favourite, hemp powder. We promise you’ll certainly feel like celebrating after you taste this dreamy combination!

Whiz together;

1 small frozen banana
1 1⁄2 cups milk (we tried it with almond milk) 2⁄3 cup fresh spinach
1 tbsp hemp protein powder
1⁄4 small/medium sized avocado
20-30 fresh mint leaves
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1⁄2 cup crushed ice

Serve; stir through 1 tablespoon cacao nibs and garnish with mint.

Mango Magic Smoothie

Mangoes are almost a religion in Australia. The first one of the season is a cherished moment, and we even have a saying about it: ‘the only way to eat a mango properly is naked in the bath.’ Try something different next time you’re whizzing up a mango smoothie, with some fresh new additions.

Whiz together;

1⁄2 cup plain yogurt
1⁄2 cup frozen berries (whichever you have)
1⁄4 cup frozen mango, chopped
1⁄4 cup refrigerated orange-mango or tropical juice 1 teaspoon honey

Serve; with a few whole berries scattered on top or a drizzle of honey.
